  • Where will the seminar be held?
    Montana State University in Bozeman.
  • When will the seminar be held?
    The seminar begins with Opening Ceremonies at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 6, 2024 and ends with Closing Ceremonies at 12:00 P.M. on Sunday, JUNE 9, 2023. Seminar participants may check in any time after 2:00 P.M. and before 3:00 P.M. on June 6. You must be present for the entire seminar, including overnight.
  • Where should I go when I arrive?
    Check in will begin at 2:00 P.M. at Roskie Hall on Montana State University's campus in Bozeman. A room key deposit of $40 is required. Please come prepared with either cash or check. Checks are to be made payable to "HOBY Montana".
  • What kind of program is planned?
    During your HOBY Leadership Seminar, many dynamic leaders—all volunteers from the fields of business, education, government, and other professions—will address aspects of our changing world and the challenges future leaders will confront. The program will not promote any specific political party, religion, or way of thinking; but is designed to develop critical thinking skills by actively involving participants in discussions and informal debate. During the seminar, you will be asked to undertake a community service project(s) involving at least 100 hours during the year following your seminar, to make a difference in your school, community, place of worship, or other environment where you see a need. The program also includes outstanding speakers, leadership activities, social events, and a special closing ceremony to which your caretakers are invited.
  • What are accommodations like?
    Participants will be assigned to a dorm room on floors reserved exclusively for the seminar. Linens will be provided including two sheets, mattress pad, pillow, blanket, and towel, though you may bring your own if you wish. The blanket provided is very light, the towel is small, and only one pillow is provided. We recommend bringing your pillow, extra blanket, and a towel. Everyone will receive nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Please eat lunch before you arrive. The first meal provided is Thursday at 6:00 P.M. On the Medical History Records Form, please indicate any special dietary considerations, including vegetarianism, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
  • What should I bring?

  • What if I need to take medication while I'm at the seminar?
    Please provide information about your medication on the Medical History Records Form and bring the Physician Medication Verification Form with you to the seminar. Make sure to read and comply with the Policy for Use of Medication During a HOBY Event.
  • If necessary, how may I be contacted during the seminar?
    Parents, friends, and family members are discouraged from calling students during the seminar due to the disruption caused to panels and activities. In case of emergency, your parent(s) or guardian may call Charly Malcom at (406) 599-1060. The seminar will be chaperoned by qualified adults who will be staying at the facility 24 hours a day.
  • Who pays for the seminar?
    Your school, parent, or other sponsor group has paid a Registration Fee. You are responsible for transportation to and from the seminar. All costs for meals, lodging, and training materials have been generously provided by sponsors throughout our state, including businesses, foundations, individuals, and service organizations wishing to support leadership education.
  • What should I wear at the seminar?
    Participants will be given a HOBY t-shirt to wear for the duration of the weekend. Please wear appropriate semi-casual business clothing in addition to your t-shirt. Sunday is a “dress-up” day for our Closing Ceremonies. There will also be a dance during the program and the participants are allowed to change into comfortable, appropriate casual clothing.
  • What about religious services?
    Religious services will not be provided. However, there are several options in Bozeman with services after the conclusion of the seminar.
  • What transportation arrangements have been made?
    You are responsible for your transportation to and from the seminar. Please include all details of your itinerary on the enclosed Participant Confirmation Form. If you have last minute transportation problems up to June 5th, please notify Mackenzie Spence at (406) 241-2671.
  • What if I am unable to attend the seminar?
    If circumstances arise that prevent you from attending the entire seminar, including overnight, we would like to give another student the opportunity to attend. Please notify the HOBY contact at your school, and follow up with a call to Charly Malcom at leadership@montanahoby.org.

  • What action should I take now?
    There is nothing you need to do right now. Just be ready for an OUTSTANDING four days!
